Type Locality and Naming

SW Algeria. The Type Locality is Hassi el Bachir, while the Type Section is in SW flank of Jebel Berga syncline (Wendt et al., 2008).

Lithology and Thickness

The Hassi Bachir Fm is about 250m thick, and is made up of red sandstones and claystones with ferruginous minerals, alternating with rare calcareous and dolomitic beds of marine or lacustrine origin (Conrad, 1973; Derder et al., 2009).


Lithology Pattern: 
Clayey sandstone


Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It conformably overlies the Calcaires du Djebel Berga Fm.

Upper contact

-NA- Basin Surface.
